Check out The Brunswick Project!
So Here’s the deal with that! Every week two guys in the far away utopia of Toronto, Canada get together to create a song. End of deal.
Just Kidding! That’s anything but the end of the deal! Steve Cruickshank and Joel Buxton get together every week, unplug a fridge, get some whisky and end up with a song. The duo has agreed to do this for a year, and just recently passed the half way mark. This is extremely awesome because they’ve released what’s roughly equivalent to two studio albums, way faster than most labels release one, and because it all sounds GOOD!
Now having said how awesome they are, it’s not exactly unexpected both Steve and Joel have impressive resumes.
Joel is a comedy writer for Bite TV, the perpetually entertaining Awesome Marcus Ninja and is even a member of the massively talented, award winning comedy troupe, The Sketchersons!
Steve is an award winning songwriter and musician, and has been frontman for a number of indie rock projects including Apple Pi, and The Party Album.
This perfect storm of creativity has resulted in the Brunswick Project! It’s like a shot of indie folk rock, straight to your ears, every week. My favourity track so far is week 24’s This Old Man.
3 albums have been released by the duo so far Alpha Includes weeks 1-8, Beta includes weeks 10-17, and the obligatory christmas album that EVERYONE must release at some point in their careers. (stay tuned for mine in 2014)
Overall The Brunswick Project is a great idea with a great execution, complete with the super catchy lyrics that sound like they belong in a Juno sequel soundtrack.
They’ve managed to cram a massive variety of sound in each week and for that I applaud them. Upbeat numbers like week one are tempered and balanced by more mellow tracks like week 14. there’s probably at least one track you’ll like out of the bunch.
Stay in touch with me here at Crazy Wicked Awesome, I’ve got an interview with Steve and Joel coming soon. In the meantime, feel free to listen for them on the stream!
